What we collect
When you join the Cycling Atlas newsletter, we store your email address, subscription status, the date and time you consented, the version of the consent wording, and that the signup came from a route action prompt. We do not store which route, map or file you opened as part of the newsletter record.
When you report a route change, we store the route, issue category, report details, submission time and any optional email address you provide for follow-up.
How we use your email
We use your email for marketing: cool new routes, towns and cities, maps, downloadable GPX files, and occasional offers or discounts on cycling-related products. We may also send service messages needed to manage your subscription. We do not make access to route downloads conditional on joining.
An email supplied with a route report is used only to clarify or follow up that report. It does not subscribe you to marketing.
Who processes the data
Cloudflare hosts this website and the newsletter database, so it processes signup requests on our behalf. A newsletter delivery provider may also process subscribed addresses when emails are sent. We do not sell or rent newsletter addresses to other businesses.
Retention and security
We keep your address while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we retain a minimal suppression record so we can respect that choice and avoid adding the address back without fresh consent. We use access controls and encrypted web connections, but no online system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Route reports are retained while they are useful for reviewing and correcting route information. Reports can be marked reviewed, resolved or dismissed.
Your choices
You can withdraw marketing consent at any time using the form below or the unsubscribe option in a newsletter. For another privacy request, reply using the sender contact details included in any Cycling Atlas email.
Unsubscribe an email address
Enter the address you want removed. For privacy, the confirmation is the same whether or not the address is currently subscribed.
Website visits
Like most website hosts, Cloudflare may process technical request data such as IP address, browser information and requested pages to deliver and protect the site. The newsletter prompt uses browser storage only to remember that it has already been shown or that you joined; this preference is not the subscription record.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page as the newsletter service develops. The latest version and its update date will remain available here.
